The TOC Thinking Processes

One of the most powerful aspects of the Theory Of Constraints is the set of Thinking Processes. We are developing a site for the TOC Thinking Processes. Learn more/...

New: Open TOCJonah programmes.

Traditional TOCJonah
programme based in Scotland in the Spring. Add your name and email below to learn more.

The power of these processes is: firstly, in their ability to make the user think through clearly what they know and do not know, secondly to be able to communicate the users thinking to others in a way that they can contribute effectively, and thirdly, to develop simple solutions that the correct people can implement quickly, that realise rapid large lasting benefits and which are at the same time a process for ongoing improvement.

There are six TOC Thinking processes:

1 The Current Reality Tree (CRT)

To answer; What is the problem?

2 The Evaporating Cloud (Cld)

To complete the answer to; What is the problem?, and To Find the direction of the solution.

3 The Future reality Tree (FRT)

To answer the question To what to change to? To identify all the elements of the full solution starting from the new direction identified and agreed in process 2
4 The Negative Branch Reservation (NBR)
To deal with the concerns raised by those seeing the suggested direction and full solution. To identify the modifications needed to avoid new negatives steming from the solution.

5 The Prerequisite Tree (PrT)

To begin to answer the question: How to cause the proper people to cause the change? By breaking the full solution down into smaller logical sequenced steps
6 The Transition Tree (TrT)
To complete the answer to the question: How to cause the proper people to cause the change? By explaining where necessary the gradual change envisaged that will occur to move from the starting point to one of the steps in identified in process 5
