Is Your Organisation On A Process Of On Going Improvement?

Business Wide Poogi

The current economic situation is making many companies reevaluate their short term strategy and plans. Many are focusing on cost and cash control. A large number have been trying to implement a process of ongoing improvement (POOGI) and feel that they have not as yet achieved what they expected. Significant improvement does happen but generally only in response to a directed initiative. Some feel that if they had achieved the goal of POOGI the economic shock would not have been as difficult to deal with as it has been.

Every TOC application is a process of on going improvement. The applications listed here are directed at specific areas of the business: operations, project, logistics, marketing, sales and people and will if implemented correctly and fully create a lasting POOGI in that area. There is also a process to create organisation wide POOGI.

However, to have POOGI across the whole organisation it is necessary to have a synchronized improvement strategy. Synchronized does not mean improve everything everywhere this is very wasteful and unnecessary. Trying to implement, however important or necessary it is, one localized POOGI will soon result in it being blocked by limitations in other areas. Then the local improvements being made will force the organisation to focus on finding other ways to turn the productivity gains into bottom line results. Usually, they have no option but to consider reducing people. As soon as they consider reducing people those who have been participating in the improvement process feel betrayed and the POOGI process is damaged. This is happening in many organisation now as they react to the economic downturn by cutting people.

Whilst this is very regrettable it is probably unstoppable in this cycle. However, it is not necessary to allow this to happen again and the economic downturn has reduced the load on people so this is the time when POOGI should be established properly so that your organisation never has to face the prospect of being in a cash position that forces laying off good workers and employees again. If you want to create a real organisation wide POOGI contact us via this link for an initial discussion on how the proven TOC process can help. Alternatively participate in our open workshop - "
